We were invited to participate in the Springer Mountain Farms Southern Wing Showdown in Atlanta this weekend, and it was a ton of fun. We were one of thirty teams, each representing well-respected restaurants and chefs from Atlanta and the Southeast, so it was pretty cool to be included in such an esteemed group.
Each team received 1,000 wings to cook and serve however they chose. Of course we had to bring our “A-game” so we prepared ours just the way we will serve them in the restaurant, with our signature rub and sauce, delivering a smoky, sweet-heat flavor punch. Our team worked incredibly hard from the moment we arrived until we loaded up to head home, and we left it all on the field, so to speak. Sadly, we didn’t win this time, BUT we were the first team to run out of wings because people kept coming back for more. That’s saying something in our book.
It was a lot of fun to meet and introduce hundreds of new people to HoneyFire BBQ, and of course we enjoyed sampling the wings from the other chefs once things slowed down at our booth. We definitely left with full bellies, and we loved having the opportunity to participate in such a fun event.
